How we collect information
We may collect personal information:
- directly from you through our contact form, by email or phone, during booking, or during your stay;
- from a person making a booking on your behalf;
- from our booking provider, a travel agent or a third-party booking platform you use;
- automatically when you use our website or interactive map; and
- where permitted by law, from publicly available sources or service providers assisting with fraud prevention, safety or payment administration.
If you provide information about another guest, you confirm that you are authorised to do so and that they understand how their information may be used.
Why we use your information
We use personal information where reasonably necessary to:
- respond to enquiries and provide requested information;
- check availability, create and manage bookings, process payments and refunds, and send booking or pre-arrival communications;
- provide accommodation, meet reasonable guest requests and manage check-in and check-out;
- maintain guest safety, prevent fraud or misuse, protect our property and resolve complaints or disputes;
- operate, secure, troubleshoot and improve our website and services;
- maintain business, tax and accounting records and comply with legal obligations;
- enforce our Terms & Conditions; and
- send marketing where you have consented or where otherwise permitted by law.
If you choose not to provide information we reasonably need, we may be unable to answer your enquiry, complete a booking or provide part of the requested service.
Bookings and payments
Our Book buttons take you to a booking service operated by Preno. Information entered into that service is processed for us to create and administer your booking. Preno may also process information under its own terms and privacy practices. You can read the Preno Privacy Policy.
If you book through another website or travel agent, that provider’s privacy policy also applies to information it collects. Please review its policy before providing personal or payment information.
Contact forms and communications
When you submit our contact form, the details you enter are sent to us and a copy of the submission may be stored securely in the website administration area so we can respond and maintain an enquiry record. Emails, text messages and phone records may also be retained where needed to manage your enquiry, booking or stay.
Who we share information with
We do not sell or rent personal information. We may share relevant information with:
- people who operate or manage Newmarket Central and personnel who need it to assist with your booking or stay;
- Preno, payment processors, website and email hosting providers, IT support, security providers and other suppliers acting on our behalf;
- travel agents or booking platforms involved in your reservation;
- professional advisers, insurers, banks or debt-recovery providers where reasonably necessary;
- emergency services, regulators, courts or government agencies where required or permitted by law; and
- another party with your consent or at your direction.
We ask service providers to protect personal information and use it only for the services they provide. Some providers may process or store information outside New Zealand. Where the Privacy Act requires it, we take reasonable steps to ensure overseas disclosures are protected by comparable safeguards.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. Websites may also use local storage and similar technologies. These tools can help a website function, remember choices, maintain security and understand how a service is being used.
This website may use the following categories:
- Essential and security technologies: used for website operation, security, form handling and authorised administrator sessions. Blocking these may prevent some functions from working correctly.
- Preference technologies: used to remember choices or settings where a feature requires them.
- Interactive map technologies: the Location page loads an interactive map from Mapbox. When the map loads, your browser connects to Mapbox and may send technical information such as your IP address, device and browser details. Mapbox may use cookies or similar storage under its own privacy practices. See the Mapbox Privacy Policy.
- Booking technologies: when you follow a Book link, Preno’s separate website may set cookies or use similar technologies to operate the booking process, maintain security and remember booking selections.
At the date of this policy, we do not intentionally place advertising cookies or advertising pixels on this website. Links to services such as Facebook, Instagram or Google Maps take you to separate websites; those providers may collect information after you follow the link.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so may affect the map, booking process or other website features. Controls for cookies placed on a third-party website must be managed through that provider or your browser.
Marketing messages
We will send promotional email or text messages only where we have your consent or another lawful basis. Marketing messages will identify the sender and provide a way to unsubscribe. You can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe method in the message or contacting us. We may still send service messages needed to administer an enquiry, booking or stay.
Storage, security and retention
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect personal information from loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to maintain appropriate booking and business records, and to meet legal, tax, accounting, insurance or dispute-resolution requirements. We then delete, anonymise or securely dispose of it where reasonably practicable.
Your rights
You may ask us to provide access to personal information we hold about you or to correct information you believe is inaccurate. We may need to verify your identity before responding. These rights are subject to the Privacy Act 2020, including any permitted grounds for withholding information.
To make a request, email info@newmarket-central.co.nz. If we do not agree that a correction is required, you may ask us to attach a statement of correction to the information.
Privacy concerns and complaints
Please contact us first if you have a concern so we can try to resolve it. You can also contact or complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices, providers or legal obligations change. The current version will be published on this page with its last-updated date.
